express Entry

As of January 2015, skilled foreign workers have access to Express Entry – a new electronic application management system – which applies to Canada’s key economic immigration programs:

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP);
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP);
  • Canadian Experience Class (CEC); and,
  • A portion of the Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP).

Express entry application

  • On-line based on comprehensive ranking system.
  • Applicants that meet requirements of one of the three classes (FSW,FST, CEC) and some PNP will be placed in pool of applicants.
  • This is not an application.
  • Job bank – candidates with no job offer or nomination must be registered with Job bank.

Comprehensive ranking system

  • The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is a points-based system that is used to assess and score a candidate’s profile to rank them in the Express Entry pool.
  • The CRS will assess the profile information candidates submit, including: skills, work experience, language ability, education and other factors.
  • Additional points will be awarded for candidates who have a job offer or a nomination by one of Canada’s provinces or territories under their provincial nominee programs
  • Candidates will be given a score out of 1,200, based on the four parts of the Comprehensive Ranking System formula:
    1. Skills and experience factors.
    2. Spouse or common-law partner factors (such as their language skills and education).
    3. Skills transferability (including education and work experience).
    4. Additional points for those with a nomination from a province or territory or a valid job offer.
